Why Abiotic Factors Are Important free essay sample

The non-living components of a particular environment that make the conditions ideal for sustenance of life are known as the abiotic factors. Some of the important abiotic factors that affect living organisms are: Water Water can easily be called the lifeblood of Earth. The planet’s surface is covered by 70% water and it is the essential component of all living beings. 75 % of the human body is comprised of water, with 90% of blood being water. All living beings, whether they are animals or plants, need a definite percentage of water present in their body to remain healthy. In human beings water helps regulate the bodys temperature and blood pressure. It is also an important part of saliva, sweat and tears. In plants important nutrients are carried from the soil to the plants through water. The water bodies of the world have more life forms present in them than found on land. We will write a custom essay sample on Why Abiotic Factors Are Important or any similar topic specifically for you Do Not WasteYour Time HIRE WRITER Only 13.90 / page Water has the property of its solid frozen form being less dense than the liquid form. This important property makes ice float on water and allows many aquatic life forms to survive in cold conditions in the water in spite of the surface being frozen. There is a wide range of temperature in which water remains in liquid form and it has the ability to dissolve many essential nutrients ; minerals. All this and more make water an iessential factor for survival of life. Temperature All plants and animals are adapted to survive between a minimum and maximum range of temperature. The earth’s surface has different temperatures in different zones and while some animals and plants can bear extreme heat or extreme cold, some survive well in moderate temperature ranges. There are animals whose body temperature fluctuates in different seasonal conditions. These are animals like fishes and frogs that are called poikilothermal or cold blooded animals. Others are those animals and mammals who can regulate their body temperature according to the outside temperature. These are known as homeothermal or warm blooded animals. In geographical processes temperature also plays an important role. The difference in the temperature of different oceanic water in combination with winds and the earth’s rotation gives rise to oceanic currents.Heat and cold equilibrium in combination with various other factors thus governs many physiological and biological process of the planet. Light Light is the main source of energy for organisms. Natural light has an important part to play in the life of most plants as it is utilized by them for the process of photosynthesis where light energy is converted into chemical energy and into complex organic substances important for growth, flowering and germination.Plants as food source indirectly transfer the energy to animals. For animals the intensity of light affects their skin color, sensitivity, sight etc. There are insects that use UV light to distinguish between flowers and many experts believe that birds too orient themselves in a specific direction depending on the slight difference of UV light reflected from object such as trees. Light not only is an energy source but an important factor for maintaining the biological rhythm of life. Atmospheric PressureBecause of the gravitational force of the earth the atmospheric gases are pulled towards the surface. This phenomenon leads to the air pressure being more near the surface of the earth and it decreases as the altitude or the height increases. All organisms can again survive only in particular range of atmospheric pressure and when the air pressure is low, especially in higher altitudes some may find it difficult to breathe because of the insufficient amount of oxygen present at a height. In the depth of the oceans the atmospheric pressure increases with the increasing depth and again this induces only certain kinds of animals and plants to survive in certain specific ocean regions. Chemical components Carbon, Oxygen, Hydrogen and Nitrogen are four natural elements that constitute 97 % of the molecules of life. Of the 92 known natural elements in Earth, 25 elem ents are found in living beings. Organic and inorganic compounds derived from plants and other food sources ensure the smooth functioning of many vital organs.Soil For plants soil type is a major factor in deciding the type and variety of species growing in a particular area as the minerals, water co ntents, microorganisms etc. all differ in different soils. Soil is a combination of various organic and inorganic matters and with the varying content the water retention capacity of the soil, the fertility, and presence of minerals also changes. While clay soil can retain more water but less air, black soil is ideal for plant growth with balance of air and water retention capacities.

Jobs drove himself by magical thinking. In one of his interviews he said, â€Å"be who you are and say what you feel because those who mind don’t matter and those who don’t mind. Time is limited and precious. We should not waste it by leading someone else’s life. That is why maybe Jobs succeeded in such a short span of life. We should learn to follow our heart and intuition. United States Marines essays

United States Marines essays What is a Peace Hero? Webster describes a hero as, A man noted for courageous acts or nobility of purpose. One who has risked or sacrificed his life. Peace is described as, The absence of war or other hostilities. Isnt that the life of a Marine? Every day they are willing to risk their lives for the courageous act of peace. Values such as Honor, Courage, and Commitment are what make Marines and in essence, Heroes. Up until 1999 I never really thought about the Marine Corps, but when my brother became a Marine, my knowledge of what they stand for greatly increased. I realize throughout the 20th Century, there has been many peace heroes. But where would these heroes be without the heroes behind the scenes maintaining the peace in which they live. The Marines have a greater responsibility than we can possibly fathom. They hold the essence of peace in their hands. With courage they defend the country they are called to serve. Many of us do not understand this calling, but we enjoy the benefits they provide. While we work our eight-hour days and go to a safe place of refuge called home, they are deployed from their home, family, and friends to a foreign country not always safe. They guard their post without question, putting their very lives on the line every day, all day. They provide a blanket of security for all of us to sleep under, yet during peace times we forget they are still there, guarding, keeping us safe from harm. During the 20th Century many wars were fought, from the Philippine-American War (1899-1902) to the Persian Gulf War (1991), the Marines were there serving and protection our nation. Marines have participated in all wars of the United States, being in most instances first, or among the first to fight. After the war is declared officially over, the Marines stay as a peacekeeping force. Often the mere presence of the Marines is enough of a deterrent to keep peace. ...

Anorexia Nervosa Research Essays

Anorexia Nervosa Research Essays Anorexia Nervosa Research Essay Anorexia Nervosa Research Essay The mental health problem that I researched was anorexia nervosa. I had always heard about the eating disorder but I learned a lot of new and surprising things. I always thought that close friends and family members would know right away if a person had anorexia. However, I learned that these friends and family members notice that something is wrong as the person develops anorexia. Another thing that I learned is that anorexia nervosa makes people lose more weight than what is considered healthy for their height and age. I knew that anorexia was when a person was underweight compared to the average person. However, I never knew that anorexia was when people were thinner than the average person their height and age. Height and age is an important factor when defining anorexia and I was able to learn the exact definition of anorexia. Anorexia is a deadly eating disorder and is a major issue. People with anorexia are probably constantly afraid and stressed. They are afraid because they fear of gaining weight. They will always be haunted by the hought that they are too fat and have to lose weight right away. Thus, these people will always be stressed out because they wont be happy with themselves and will be pressured to lose weight. People who do not know the exact definition of anorexia probably look down at people with anorexia. These people believe that anorexia is a disgusting eating disorder and can be overcome easily. So they are annoyed with anorexic people who are suffering because they think that it is possible to recover from anorexia easily. However, that is not true. Sometimes if an extremely thin person walks by, some bystanders think That person is so skinny! They should gain weight because they Just look horrible! In reality though, it is really hard for anorexic people to overcome their eating disorder. It takes a lot of treatment, effort, and time. Thus, these bystanders do not even know the hardships that anorexic people have to go through but they say rude comments. If they knew about the eating disorder, they would know that it is a serious illness. It is not something to make Jokes out of or make fun of.

Are People Better Informed in the Information Society Essay

Are People Better Informed in the Information Society - Essay Example The deliberate and non-deliberate participation in the interpretation and spread of information is one attribute that makes our society an informed society. People have not just the liberty to access all types of information, but also to spread it once acquired. Being in an information society, therefore, gives one an opportunity to access information. According to Nardi et al. (1999), the quest for information, which is tightly associated with human curiosity, is the basis and foundation of informational security. When a piece of information is concealed, it raises interest, and the search for it intensifies. This is in comparison to open information that often appears unworthy and less enticing. In an era when the society has all the tools necessary to access valuable and interesting information, people get more informed. Regarding this issue, I would also assume the position taken by Linda Jackson. The accessibility to sources of information has improved not only the peoples confident in sharing information but also increases the learners’ ability to synthesize and interpret information. For instance, a classroom setting may not have all the necessary material and illustrations to drive home a point in for all the students. However, when much more of the illustrations are available on the Internet, the informational gap is bridged. It is agreeable that with increased rational use of the internet, people become relatively better informed. In addition, the more the people get informed, the more they enrich themselves as sources of information to others. A real example, in this case, is a teacher who reads widely on his topic before sharing with the students. The teacher has access to the information from the wider network, enrich their ‘stores’ of information and become a source for the students. One significant attributed benefit of technology is increasing the access to information.Â
